Having learned the Russian alphabet (алфави́т ) and what sound (звук ) corresponds to each letter (бу́ква ), you can now read Russian words.

The images below show grocery packages commonly used in Russia. Read aloud the labels on the packages.

When listening, you may hear that sounds not always are pronounced as clearly as they are presented in the alphabet. Do not worry about that — we will get to the pronunciation rules later in Section 3. At this point all that matters is to make sure you can recognize Russian letters and read words.
